A polycarbonate nosecone would seal the inside from the outside. But a limitation is, if it is very cold in the measurement area, it is possible that condensation could form causing measurement variability.

Additionally, the nosecone glass is Schott BK-7 which is a very hard coated glass. The lamp is pretty deep in the sensor and is only the size of a large wooden matchstick. We have never seen a lamp that has broken glass.
