The purpose of a USB-to-serial adapter is to allow communications between a sensor having a 9-pin RS-232 serial communications port and a USB (Universal Serial Bus) port on a PC.

HunterLab offers a A10-1011-777 DB9 Serial-to-USB Adapter that works with all current HunterLab sensors, software, and the Windows operating system. Other brands from third party suppliers can also be used. Clients will not experience any decrease in instrument or software performance using this adapter.

The driver is supplied in the package but the adapter is typically recognized as a USB device by all current Windows operating systems. The driver is pre-loaded in the Windows operating system.

1. Make sure the sensor is active so the PC will recognize the sensor as a device. The easy way to tell this is to note if the green LED sensor light at the front of the instrument is ON, or in the case of ColorFlex and MiniScan, the screen is active.
2. Attach the RS-232 Serial cable (B02-1004-207) to the sensor and the DB9 Serial-to-USB Adapter (A10-1011-777) to the end of the serial cable.
3. Plug in the adaptor at a USB port on the PC. The Windows operating system should recognize the presence of this new device.
4. The correct driver should load automatically in any current Windows operating system and you should be able to immediately enter the software to load the sensor.
