Source for DORIGON replacement meter for Rs (30 degree specular gloss), DOI (Distinctness-of-Image) and reflectance haze (2 & 15 degrees)
Distinctness-of-Image (DOI) is a form of gloss that visually differentiates small differences in the surface of mirror-like surfaces. Visually it can be seen as the degree of distortion in the specular reflection of an image. If you look at a reflection of your face in the hood of a new car, it is the degree of distortion or softening in the mirror image of your features. In automotive applications, a less than mirror like finish is referred to as "orange peel".
HunterLab designed and manufactured the original DORIGON (Distinctness-Of-Image Abridged Goniophotometer) to measure this type of gloss (defined in ASTM E430) and followed it up with the DORION II, a more modern replacement instrument.
Unfortunately HunterLab no longer manufactures this instrument for the market.

There is a company, Tricor Systems, that manufactures the Tricor DOI Meter 807 with the claim that it completely meets the requirements of ASTM E430 Standard Test Methods for Measurement of Gloss of High-Gloss Surfaces by Goniophotometry and matches HunterLab Dorigon II.
"Computed results include Rs (specular gloss), DOI (Distinctness-of-image gloss) and haze (2 & 15 degrees). The device can help quantify reflectance, Doi, haze, sheen, reflection directionality, reflectance haze, metallic brightness for metals, glass, ceramics, painted surfaces and any other high reflectance surface. The system was designed as a direct replacement of the obsolete Dorigon II."

The BYK-Gardner WaveScan measures contrast with a CCD camera with a 20-degree geometry viewing a laser spot. The area imaging system evaluates the area of the halo around the imaged laser spot on the sample relative to the reference laser spot projected. It is useful for high gloss levels only.
