FAQ: Can you tell me why the Didymium Filter test fails?

Answer:

It is possible to fail on the first Didymium Filter wavelength check test due to outgassing from the plastic bag that the Didymium Filter used to be shipped in.

Note: we now ship this filter in a cloth bag to avoid this.

This in turn can cause a slight film buildup on the front and/or back surface of the Didymium Filter. This can cause he filter curve results to be higher, and given our tight tolerances, it can be enough to FAIL the test. This can be problematic any time but particularly when performing a first-time startup.

It does not always happen, but if the sphere (i.e., ColorQuest XE, UltraScan PRO or UltraScan VIS) fails a Didymium Filter wavelength check, I recommend the filter be cleaned. This can be done with a Kim wipe and IPA (isopropyl alcohol) and this will remove the film. The instrument may then PASS on the second test attempt.

If you have a plastic bag from previous, we are happy to send them a cloth one to eliminate this issue.
