This FAQ clarifies how the TotalView 360° Auto Rotator (PN# L02-1021-858) functions with the Agera L2, including compatibility with both flat samples and materials measured in a sample cup, and to explain when and how the accessory improves measurement representativeness and statistical confidence.

Important Notes:

Compatible with Multiple Sample Types

The Auto Rotator can measure flat samples (textiles, plastics, coatings, tiles, films, etc.) as well as granular, pelletized, or powdered materials presented in a HunterLab sample cup.

Sample Cup is Optional, Not Required

The accessory works with the HunterLab sample cup, but the cup must be purchased separately and is not required for operation with flat samples.

Improves Statistical Confidence

The system rotates the sample automatically through up to 72 positions across 360°, capturing multiple readings and calculating mean color, standard deviation, and confidence data to improve measurement reliability—especially for non-uniform or directional materials.

Q: Is the Auto Rotating Port Plate for Agera L2 only available with the sample cup? Can it measure other sample types?

A: The Auto Rotating Port Plate (TotalView 360° Auto Rotator) for Agera L2 is an optional accessory designed to automatically rotate samples during measurement to improve representativeness and statistical confidence.

It is not limited to use with a sample cup.

The Auto Rotator can measure:

  • Flat samples such as textiles, papers, films, tiles, plastics, coatings, and other solid materials using the integrated sample clamp.

  • Granular, pelletized, powdered, or irregular materials presented in a HunterLab sample cup.

How It Works

  • The 2" area of view rotating port plate mounts directly to the instrument port.

  • The sample is secured using the integrated clamp.

  • The system rotates the sample automatically in fixed angular increments (up to 72 positions across 360°).

  • The instrument captures data at each position and calculates mean color, standard deviation, and statistical confidence values.

This approach is especially valuable for materials with directional texture, grain, surface variation, or non-uniform distribution, ensuring a more representative measurement.

Important Note

The Auto Rotator works with the HunterLab sample cup, but the sample cup is purchased separately (HL PN# 04-7209-00) and is not required for operation. Flat samples can be measured directly using the clamp without a cup.
